Accurascale Class 37s - Second Run
The Class 37: A Brief History
The British Rail Class 37 locomotive, also known as the English Electric Type 3, is a diesel-electric locomotive that was designed and built in the 1960s. The locomotive was introduced as part of a new generation of diesel locomotives, intended to replace the steam locomotives that were still in use on British Railways at the time.
The Class 37 locomotive was first introduced in 1960, and over the following years, a total of 309 locomotives were built. The locomotives were used for a variety of different tasks, including freight and passenger services, and they were also used for hauling heavy goods trains.
One of the key features of the Class 37 locomotive was its versatility. The locomotives were designed to be easily modified and adapted for different tasks, which made them very useful for British Railways. They were also highly reliable and had a long service life, which meant that they remained in use for many years.
The Class 37 locomotive remained in use on British Railways until the 1990s, when they were gradually phased out in favor of newer locomotives. However, many of the locomotives were sold to private companies and are still in use today, both in the UK and abroad.
Overall, the British Rail Class 37 locomotive played an important role in the modernization of British Railways and remains a popular and highly respected locomotive among railway enthusiasts.
