RMS Christmas Shopping Guide 2022

With Christmas around the corner, we decided to put together a quick guide to help you find an ideal locomotive to buy as a present for a friend or a loved one! We stock a wide range of products, some of which are higher end and more expensive, but we also stock a great range of affordable products that would make great presents and stocking fillers!

HORNBY

To start with, we will take a look at the Hornby Railroad range, which offers a selection of affordable but reliable locomotives and also a range of coaches and wagons that make an ideal present.

Hornby offer a range of cheap and cheerful 0-4-0 locomotives, that come in a range of colours and variations including diesels and steam locomotives. These are very reliable models and are great 'first locomotives' or alternatively make great shunters on a more compact layout.

Hornby also produce a range of larger railroad models, with prices from £66.95 up to £89.95. These larger models represent bigger steam locomotives and also more modern locomotives such as Network Rail or Rail Operations Group liveried examples. These are also DCC Ready, meaning they can easily be converted if the recipient of the model needs to fit DCC.

These models are very reliable runners, and all though they do lack some detail, they are still worth considering as a good present for someone at Christmas, especially those shopping for younger children who could be likely to damage more expensive and fragile models.

A good idea for some stocking fillers would be some Railroad range rolling stock, especially wagons. We have a selection of affordable railroad products, that may lack somewhat in detail, but nevertheless they are still very solid models for the price. We have various bundles available that also include these cheaper wagons, but we will discuss these later on! Below is a selection of Railroad coaches and wagons, from as little as £13.95 each - also there are some sets of three wagons available, which works out at about £12 per wagon, so you get a little bit more out of your money - you can see these below!

If you are looking for something that could be seen as a 'main' present, then look no further than our great range of Hornby starter sets! We have a good selection available at a competitive price, including the newly released 'Red Rover' train set, that is sure to be popular this Christmas! Starter sets come with everything you need to get started, as the name suggests.They contain a locomotive and a number of coaches or wagons, a loop of standard Hornby OO gauge track, a controller and a Track mat. These starter sets can easily be expanded upon with the range of Hornby set track and track packs. No matter the era there is a good starter set available, if you are buying a set for someone more into steam trains, then the Valley Drifter and Coca-Cola sets are a great gift, and for someone more interested in more modern trains, then we have the option of the newly released 'Red Rover' train set featuring a modern diesel locomotive, or the ever popular Hornby GWR high speed train!

Outside of the Railroad range we stock a wide selection of products from the main Hornby Railways Range - again these range in price and can fulfil the present buying requirements of everyone. Even in the main range there are some locomotives that you can buy for around £100, and these would make a good main present for anyone on a slightly tighter budget this year. These are great high quality models, packed with detail and ready to be fitted with DCC decoders if needed - some examples will be shown below!
